This system contains a database (visual and text) of international road signs, rules, regulations and scenarios that a typical trainee driver needs to master before obtaining a learner's drivers license. The system features a Study Mode and an Evaluation Mode.In the Study Mode the trainee systematically works through the database of images (with related text information). In the Evaluation Mode the system presents the trainee with a grouping of randomly selected images/questions that must be identified/answered and categorized. A database of trainee proficiency is maintained. This program may also be utilized as a Computer Based Training (CBT) companion package for the Virtual Reality Driver Training Simulator.

The trainee systematically works through several road signs. For each sign the name, category and required action in response to the road sign is shown. The road sign is also shown in its correct traffic context. In this image a 'no-parking' sign is shown. 

In the 'learn mode' the trainee proceeds at his/her own pace. The number of road signs to be studied may be selected in advance. The trainee may also opt to only work through certain categories of road signs.
Learn Mode: Road Signs (1)

In the 'learn mode' the trainee proceeds at his/her own pace. The number of road signs to be studied may be selected in advance. The trainee may also opt to only work through certain categories of road signs.

As soon as a trainee feels that he/she is ready for evaluation, the 'test mode' may be selected. In this mode the trainee is presented with the name of a road sign, and must then select the correct sign from a collection of 9 road signs. Once a sign has been selected, the trainee receives immediate feedback. In this case the trainee selected the correct sign. A running score is also displayed.

In this mode the trainee is presented with the name of a road sign, and must then select the correct sign from a collection of 9 road signs. The final phase of the 'test mode' requires the trainee to place road signs in their correct traffic context. The trainee is presented with an image in which the road signs have been blanked out. The trainee now has to select the correct road sign by name. 

This scenario corresponds with the 'learn mode: road signs (1)' image. The trainee selected the 'minimum speed limit' sign. The system immediately indicates that this was an incorrect choice. The correct choice is also shown, so that the trainee continues to learns, even during evaluation. The immediate feedback forms an important part of the learning process. There is also positive and negative audio feedback.
