Virtual Landscapes

Product Description

5DT has developed technology to generate reality-based and synthetic virtual landscapes. The Reality-based virtual landscapes closely resemble real landscapes. Grid-based height data (e.g. DEM), satellite photographs, aerial photographs and GIS data are combined when developing the landscape. The landscapes are developed either to the OpenFlight format (using Terrex landscape development tools), or to 5DT's internal landscape format (using 5DT's own landscape development tools). The developed landscapes are referenced to electronic maps of the area. Synthetic landscapes (i.e. landscapes that does not exist in the real world) may also be developed.

Utilizing 5DT's Dynamic Real Time Triangulated Irregular Networks (DRT-TIN) technology, or the V-Tree program, these landscapes may now be rendered in real time on a Pentium III or Pentium 4 computer with a graphics accelerator card. Multi-texturing techniques are used to provide for a realistic image at different heights above the landscape.

Landscapes with a color, pseudo InfraRed or night vision equipment appearance may be developed.
