High Voltage Line Inspection Logging System

High Voltage Line Inspection Logging System

Product Description

This system is essentially a paperless inspection system. The system consists of a palm device with inspection software. The user can inspect a High Voltage Transmission Line and log the defects and comments on the palm device. When the user returns to the office, the palm device is placed in its cradle, and the logged defects and comments are downloaded into a database/spreadsheet (e.g. Excel or Access) instantaneously. This database may then be used to generate job 'sheets' for the repair of the transmission line. The job 'sheets' could also be loaded onto the palm device, so that the repairperson can take it out to the field.

The system runs under the Windows CE operating system, so it is easy to integrate the inspection system with other Windows applications. The system has been configured for transmission line inspections. It may however also be configured for other inspection tasks.

A palm device is used to log defects and comments during a high voltage transmission line inspection. Information is entered by means of a stylus on the touch screen of the palm device. The user may check inspection boxes and pictograms, 'type' with a miniature virtual keyboard, or write with normal characters (the palm device features powerful character recognition algorithms).
The Palm Device
when inspecting a high voltage transmission line, the user may select the specific tower type, conductor and insulator.
String Type Selection
There are six error type categories, of which servitude errors are one. The user first selects the error from a cataloged error menu, then assign a priority to the error (high, medium, low) and then indicate the span (between tower 12 and 13) where the error has been identified.
Checking Servitude Errors
There are six error type categories, of which insulator errors are one. The user first selects the error from a cataloged error menu, then assign a priority to the error (high, medium, low). The string type and phase identification is selected next. Finally the span (between tower 12 and 13), where the error has been identified, is selected.
Checking Insulator Errors
After inspection of a transmission line, tower or span, the user may edit the inspection data that has been recorded. The user may step through towers or spans, or may select a specific tower or span.
Editing a Tower or Span
When a transmission line has been inspected, the user may download the inspection data from the palm device to a personal computer. The palm device is placed in a cradle, and the data is transferred. The palm device operates under windows ce, so it is relatively easy to integrate the recorded data with other windows applications.
