The objective of the 5DT Airspace Visualizer is to enable the trainee Air Traffic Controller to visualize airspace, with specific emphasis on the airspace surrounding an airport. Specific airspace control zones are shown in 3 dimensions. Other features include beacons (inverted cones) as well as the glide slopes for the relevant runways. The airspace is visualized on the backdrop of a virtual landscape that is constructed using 3-D height information (Digital Elevation Model (DEM)), satellite photographs and aerial photographs of the specific region. The airspace control zones, beacons and glide slopes are based on information as typically supplied in the 'Jeppeson' maps of the relevant airport.

The trainee may navigate the viewpoint with a computer mouse. Specific control zones or beacons may be switched on selectively, or they may be shown all at once. The opacity of the control zones may be adjusted by the user.
