When an error has been detected, a button is pressed on the space controller (or computer mouse). The main error category menu will be superimposed over the view of the environment. When the trainee looks up and down, his/her head movement is tracked with a head tracker. This head movement scrolls the error category menu. When a certain category is highlighted, the trainee may look to the right to select a sub category for the error. When the suspected error has been identified (by scrolling the menus with head movement), the select button on the space controller is pressed, and the identified error is recorded.

In this case a 'Loose earth strap' has been selected under the 'Towers' error category.
