When
combined with world model items, faceLAB clearly
shows the gaze intersection with specific items
within the environment in real time. faceLAB™ 4
uses an active illumination technique, increasing
the fidelity and accuracy of gaze assessment. Track
each eye independently, and if the subject is close
enough, even track pupil size and vergence. If conditions
degrade, faceLAB™ continues to maintain the confidence
of its classic, robust tracking system by default.
Analyse and model fatigue and drowsiness in real-time
with faceLAB™'s true blink analysis and PERCLOS
fatigue assessment, including data on the minutia
of eyelid behavior. Measurements are taken accurately
on eyelid position rather than bright pupil or corneal
occlusion. |

faceLAB™
has been developed in parallel to the Biometrics
industry, with these elements in mind: robustness,
tolerance to lighting variation, and establishing
reliable, constantly tracking measurements relating
to the face. faceLAB™ provide automatic tracking—not
just face finding—complete with implicit knowledge
of scale, rotation and distance in scene.Automatic
acquisition, a wide field of view, and constant
evaluation of the scene in view, faceLAB™ technology
is uniquely situated to prototype improvements to
existing facial recognition. |
Human Machine
Interaction [HMI]

and Technology Organisation, Australia |
Ubiquitous human-machine interaction of the future
may require knowledge of what a person is doing—what
is holding their attention, their focus. faceLAB™
captures this information in real-time, requiring
only the presence of the operator and the click
of a button to get instantaneous feedback on eye
gaze, head pose and even eye blinks.
New in faceLAB™ v4 is implicit knowledge of
search regions for the eyes and also the mouth—perfect
for reducing the search region for lip tracking
systems or psycholinguistic applications and further
vision processing.
Whether your application is to study and evaluate
the behaviour of a web page or application interface,
or to drive one, faceLAB™ has the accuracy,
robustness and ease of use to make it happen. Designed
with difficult environmental conditions in mind—such
as in a moving car, the same level of fast response
and quick recovery can be used in many application
environments. Unfettered by helmets, cables or other
cumbersome apparatus, those interacting with the
system need not even be aware that the eye, blink
and head tracking system is in use—it becomes
simply a natural channel for human-machine interaction.

Some
of the core technology found in faceLAB™ originated
in the Australian National University Systems Robotics
laboratory. Designed with robot-human interaction
in mind, faceLAB's™ facial acquisition and tracking
capability can bridge critical gaps in communication:
* Where is the face of the person communicating
with me?
* What is holding their attention?
* Are they looking at me?
* What do they want me to interact with? |

faceLAB's™
unique tracking system is a perfect fit for civilian
and military aerospace simulation, training and
multi-function display evaluation.

faceLAB™
produces accurate data on-time, in the toughest
of tracking environments. From outdoor intelligent
vehicle or aerospace studies through to screen &
web usability, stimulus response and laboratory
environments, faceLAB™ provides high accuracy and
tolerance to a wide range of operational conditions.
faceLAB provides direct integration with custom
simulators, enabling gaze fixation and head pose
information to be translated into 3D simulator information.

Eye
tracking and the study of infants and children long
been plagued with difficult to use, cumbersome hardware,
long setup times and of course, often uncooperative
subjects. This latest release of faceLAB™ is the
first to offer features specifically aimed at reducing
the complexity and hassle in obtaining reliable
and useful data in psychology studies of infants
and children, as well as adults.
faceLAB™ utilizes special tracking techniques to
enable easy tracking of child subjects. |
